Lisa Kuhmerker Memorial Award

This award is named after the late Dr. Lisa Kuhmerker of Harvard University and Hunter College whose inspiration has led to the many years of cooperation that eventually gave birth to the AMERUS Exchange.  It is presented annually to an educator who has developed and shared democratic methods of educating children and who has organized activities for sharing these methods. The recipient receives the "Builder of Democracy” engraved, crystal plaque and a cash award of $500.

Outstanding Citizen Diplomat Award

This award is presented to someone who as a "Citizen Diplomat" assists in the TAEL mission participate in an idealistic yet practical effort to “act small but think big.” He/she not only helps others to understand the value of democracy, but through his/her efforts,  he/shec larifies and intensifies his/her own commitment to the growth of democracy and understanding of his/her nation’s culture.

Recently, The Hudson River Bank and Trust Company Foundation took an unusual step by investing $2,500 in the local and international work of THE AMERUS EXCHANGE, LTD (TAEL.) The HRBT Foundation grant will support TAEL’s Portal Project which is designed to communicate the organization’s mission, facilitate fundraising efforts, and expand recruitment of participants in the work of citizen diplomacy at home and in Russia. The HRBTF through its support of TAEL recognizes the valuable service that local participants contribute to their homeland and globally.
